All Uganda-based positions are full time. Time commitment ranges from 4 weeks to 3 months depending on the position. Interns will work 40 hours a week. This is an unpaid internship and college credit is offered. We encourage interns to fundraise for their internship both prior to and during their time in Uganda. Sseko will provide housing. You will be responsible for all other costs incurred during the internship that include but are not limited to: travel costs, food and entertainment. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Videography Internship
As a Sseko Videography intern you will spend an estimated 4-6 weeks in East Africa documenting the culture and people of Uganda, the Sseko community and the creation of Sseko products. Most importantly, you will be creating multi-media content to connect consumers to the women who make their products. With your video camera, you’ll communicate the hope, success and change we are experiencing in the Sseko community. Your video will accompany profiles of the Sseko women as well as documenting day-to-day life in Uganda. Your primary goal will be to produce a short film (3 minutes) on Sseko and the women behind it that will be used to promote Sseko at events and in media across the globe. You will need to bring your own range of standard camera and lighting equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide direction over Sseko multi-media projects
- Create a short film on Sseko operations in Uganda
- Edit existing video and media
- Create a positive and accurate image of Sseko
- Create a weekly video installment for the Sseko blog
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Experience with video production, including set-up, composition, post-production and publishing.
- Familiarity with Final Cut Pro
- Experience working in an international setting
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Skilled at multitasking and achieving deadlines
- Works well under pressure
- Able to work effectively with limited supervision
- Flexibility and willingness to live, work and engage in a developing economy
- Adaptable to frequent changes and limitations

Product Development Intern
Duration: Minimum 3 months
Design interns will be based in Kampala. Design interns will spend their time researching and designing new product lines, developing production systems, mentoring Sseko team members, and working with the Sseko directors to create new marketing campaigns for upcoming product lines. We are looking for fashion mavericks that can follow designs through set up, pattern, sewing, production scaling and merchandising and packaging presentation. MUST be a creative DIYer who thrives in the challenge of creating beautiful, unique products with limited resources and raw material.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist full time Product Designer
- Determine availability materials for producing new/ developing existing products
- Work to create new products marketable in the US
- Assist in designing new product lines and production systems
- For all new products created during internship – assist in creating a thorough step-by-step production manual for each product
- Assist in teaching Sseko team members how to create all facets of the new product lines
- Create and implement systems for quality control management
- Work closely with the Sseko Directors to maintain: high quality production, efficiency, innovation and market relevance
- Work with the Communications team to develop relevant, on-target marketing content
- Contribute to a work environment of dignity, honor and empowerment while having a blast doing all things Sseko!
- Love on and learn from incredible women in Uganda
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- A degree and /or experience in the fashion industry
- Proficient in sewing, pattern-making and creating proto-types
- Experience working in an international setting
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience working with leather products is a plus
- Works well under pressure
- Creative problem solver who can thrive with limited resources
- Skilled at multitasking and achieving deadlines
- Able to make necessary sacrifices of living in a developing country
- Adaptable to frequent change and limitations

Our social media intern will be responsible for creating content for all our social media streams. We’re looking for an adventurous, creative and witty soul to be our brand voice for day to day happenings in Uganda. One of our primary goals as a brand is to connect consumers to producers through stories, photos and videos.
